Hans Christian Andersen
It is about a poor girl who tries to sell matches on a cold New Years Eve. Not one was sold. She did not go home because if she did her step father would beat her for not selling any matches. She lit some matches to keep warm. She dreamed of Christmas and a feast while she watched the fire. When she saw a shooting star she thought of her grandmother. Her grandmother once told her that when there is a shooting star a soul is going to heaven. Her grandmother had already passed and was the only person who treated her nicely. She saw her grandmother in the flames. She was afraid that her grandmother would go away once the flames burnt out. But then she lit all of the matches at once so that her grandmother won’t go away. Her grandmother had taken her to heaven for the girl had froze to death. I found this story sad but beautiful. The girl may have passed away but she went to a better place and went with someone she loved. Hans Christian Andersen is one of my favorite book authors. I bought a book that had 100 of his Fairy Tales. I used a picture of it as the cover of this post. Even though Fairy Tales are said to be for kids his stories are also loved by adults. I bought this when I turned 18. I would give this book 5 stars out of 5. I absolutely love his stories and I hope you enjoy them too.
Best Loved Fairy Tales is a book that contains 100 beautifully descripted fairy tails by Hans Christian Andersen including some of his most well known stories such as, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Ugly Duckling, and many more. It also has beautiful illustrations by Dugald Stewart Walker and Hans Tegner. I also want to point out that people of all ages have enjoyed his stories. Andersen’s stories always opened my mind and made me think of different kinds of morals. I don’t want to spoil the endings of any of his stories. But I will say that I liked every fairytale by him that I have read so far. And believe me, I’m not exaggerating. Im dead serious! Not only did his stories open my mind and were descripted beautifully like I said before. I also found the characters in his stories interesting as well. Wether it was the protagonist or the antagonist. If you like stories that have a lot of meanings, lessons or morals or stories that just open your mind, then you will definitely enjoy this book.
The Little Mermaid is a fairytale that was written in the 1700’s by a Danish man named Hans Christian Andersen. This story is filled with morals and sacrifice about a princess mermaid who is the youngest of her 5 sisters who longed to see the land and heard stories about it from her grandmother. She was not allowed above the surface until she was 15. After turning 15 and saving a young handsome prince’s life from a shipwreck she not only fell inlove with him but unlike the disney movie she also wanted an immortal soul because mermaids turn to foam when they die while humans were considered immortal cause they go to heaven when they die. She had to be human and marry the prince in order to obtain her wish for an immortal soul. I don’t want to spoil the ending but, I will say that once you read the original story and watch the disney version, they are almost two different stories. Reading this story really opened my mind and made me think about morals about life, sacrifice and romance. I really enjoyed reading it. I would give this story 4 stars out of 5.
